Sorry for the typos. I just noticed some mis-spelled words and such. |
Here is the link to the post on the Hermes 3000. There are several other ones as this was the H3k that I took apart to straighten the frame and make a few other repairs. I never had a typewriter in as many pieces as this one before. It was the first. The repairs were made over a few weeks and the entire project was much more fun than work. Great fun once a sheet of paper was inserted and I found the machine worked nearly perfect.
I've been needing to get myself a shelf (more like two or three. my typewriters are spread out all over the apartment and they are a mess…) and that looks like just the thing I need! Maybe they're on sale here at the Tacoma Target, too.
ReplyDeleteThey've got a set of castors for them too. I did not get them. I can always add them if I want. I think the castors are about 13 or 14 dollars extra.
DeleteVery nice. Now you need MORE such shelves!
ReplyDeleteI recently had a similar experience (wife and all) and went to Home Depot where I found some snap-together plastic shelving, quite strong. I got 3 of those and now many typewriters are collected in one little area of the basement, on those shelves.
I thought about the plastic ones, but I was not sure they would be sturdy enough to store typewriters. The plastic do have one advantage; easier to slide the typewriter(s) onto and off of the shelves.
DeleteThe wire ones need to have a piece of masonite or other thin material put on the to allow the machines to be slid. I had to allow extra space above the machines to lift them for removing or reshelving.
Great storage solution! I had no idea that you could get a shelving unit that sturdy at such a good price.
ReplyDeleteI think the normal price is 59 or 69 dollars.
DeleteI agree with Dana, nice storage solution, so neat and organized.
DeleteI'd be worried about adding castors. Imagine the momentum if that thing started rolling! Apart from a couple of portables on rotation (currently Halda and H2K) and five standards, mine strew the attic floor. Mrs M is a forgiving soul letting you keep them in daylight. Great bargain hunting!
ReplyDeleteCastors on the carpet would be fine. Rolling could be a problem in a different room. I really need to get more of these or similar shelves. I still have some machines under my desk and radio table in the radio room.
DeleteGood blogging Bill! Keep it up, love to read more from you.
