Swapping from Pica to Elite and different fonts all made the scaling a bit off.  One day I hope to take the time to do a calibration of font size to pixel size to monitor size.

I invented a new name of a typewriter company.  Too much in a hurry.  Our anniversary was 2 February and I am doing these the night before posting them so this is late in the evening of 2 February and I am not going to edit the post.

Looks like reverting back to a flat bed scanner as either the fist page or second page skews on a sheet feeder scanner. 

I.T.A.M. Day Two

This typewriter really kicked off my uncontrollable habit of typewriter collecting.
Since then about 150 or 200 typewriters crossed my workbench.  Presently much to the disdain of Mrs. M. I have about 100 typewriters in the house, but only one -- my Hammond -- on display.  I could display more, but all of my fire department memorabilia would need to go or my old Kodaks.  That will not happen.  So my typewriters remain on shelves in their own private houses only to emerge when I type.  I have about 70 that I can readily use, and a few that I need to use the one or two finger method due to key sticks, flat feed rollers, or play in the carriage.

I've been too busy to retake photos of my typewriters.  As I get time I will rephotograph them and post them to the typewriter database.  If I get them done before the end of ITAM I'll do a montage at the end of the month.  In the mean time I''l type, work on radio projects, and make a few tweaks to my new truck.

The Last Day of ITAM

Sent from my stubborn Hammond Multiplex.  Not bad for nearly 100 years old.

I spent most of my day working on my taxes and thinking of how can I do something for the last day of ITAM.  For some silly reason I thought of an old simple-silly song from way back in my radio days, The Second Week of Deer Camp by Da Yoopers.  Somehow I could not think of how to make and ITAM verse rhyme the way it should even though the metre could make it fit.

I also thought I'd get to my parts machines.  I do have some parts promised, but I wanted to post them here.  Keep watching.  One day soon I will post them.

For now...it's back to making the IRS happy.

Appreciating Typewriters at Work

The reactions of fellow employees to their engineering manager using a typewriter is worth the effort of using a typewriter at an electronics company.  I think I'm expected to do everything with a computer.....

A Milepost

When I started to type I thought the TP2 was finished.  That was until the ribbon would not automatically reverse.

I found this folded and tucked into the pouch on the inside of the carrying case.  I think this officially finished the TP2.

After I finished the first part of today's post I sat at the Facit and typed anything I could think of and tried all kinds of things to see what else is going to stop working on this typewriter.  So far only the margin release does not work correctly.  It did earlier.  It no longer works.  I think it may be the stronger spring I placed on the bell ringer.  I do not like the silent bells on either of my Facits.  They are more silent than the bell on my Remington Noiseless Model 7.
I have several European typewriters and none of them have a decent sounding bell.  Hermes may be the loudest, but those still fall short of the American made machines, even Skyriters.

I was surprised to find a typewriter cover for the TP2.  I don't think it will get much use as I only leave the Underwood Rhythm Touch out.  I wish I had a cover for that one.  I have one for each of my Royal HHs.

What is I.T.A.M. without getting another typewriter?

I was going to fix a problem and use this one tonight.  I have not been posting with each typewriter I have in the order I received them.  I have not posted once a day.  No different today.  This machine has more than the easy to fix problem.  It'll be a day or two (time permitting) before I can try it.

Adler was a bit strange tonight.  R and H were sticky.  With use they freed.  I guess it did not like being ignored for about 6 months.  It is not as good of a typer as my Underwoods, but it beats most of what I have.

Itam Five. How Do You Store Your Typewriters?

Sorry for the typos.  I just noticed some mis-spelled words and such.

Since the photo was taken there are 3 more on the top shelf and the Montana and Baby are on the shelf with 5 Skyriters, (yes 5.  One is unseen behind the other 4) and the very top shelf (not shown) has 3 machines on it

Here is the link to the post on the Hermes 3000.  There are several other ones as this was the H3k that I took apart to straighten the frame and make a few other repairs. I never had a typewriter in as many pieces as this one before.  It was the first.  The repairs were made over a few weeks and the entire project was much more fun than work.  Great fun once a sheet of paper was inserted and I found the machine worked nearly perfect.

ITAM IV

On The Third Day of I.T.A.M.

Today's typecast was typed 100% on a sheet of the above paper.

Sorry for the yellowish rendering of the paper.  It is not yellow or buff, but white.  My scanner would not scan the ink in the correct color and to get the ink closer to its color the paper is a bit yellow.  The ink should be a bit bluer.

Well, I typed the post before going to get Mrs. a new camera.  By the time we left the clouds were breaking for the second time today and the sun shown through which got rid of most of the fog.

As we returned I commented on that the temperature is hotter than Hell here. It always is. Check it out on the NOAA site.  The forecast center is just up the road from Hell in Pinckney.  Yes, Hell does freeze over.

Preview of the latest Skriter

My SM 7

I thought I may typecast a comparison of my Adler J4 and my Olympia SM 7 after I read Cameron's typecast about his Adler J4.  Both are fine typewriters.  I do find the Adler a bit smoother and I have yet to hit a returning type bar with an advancing one like happens quite often with the SM 7.  The SM 7 is not sticky in any way.  I am not a fast typist, but I can out type this machine.  In fact, I have yet to jam any of my typewriters, only the SM 7.

I hope to add an Olympia SM 9 to my collection.  I would like some others too, but for 2013 my priority is platens and getting a Mill, a Royal Signet Sr. and maybe an SM 9.  I want to be able to compare Olympia models.  Maybe I will find another SM 7 cheap.
