Baoer 388 Fountain Pen

The pen comes in a felt sleeve.  It was packed good in bubble wrap and a padded envelope.

Nice nib.  Not as much of a nail as some, but still hard.  Puts down a nice medium line a bit wetter than the orange top one from my previous post, but not as wet as a Waterman.

From my Hermes 3000 Techno Pica.

  1. I'm absolutely clueless about pens, but that Hermes 3000 techno pica is cool.

  2. Nice one, Bill. I've been using a Pelikan in recent months, since I'm having feed issues with some of my more exotic fp's. I might have to snap up one of the Chinese-made Baoer pens to see what they're like.

  3. Thanks for another insightful review on cheap fountain pens. I'm going to have to break down and try a Baoer and a Jinhao. These ought to be great as low stakes daily carry pens.

  4. Pretty neat. Have you ever had trouble with leaking fountain pens ruining your shirts?

    1. Retractable roller ball pens, but not any of my fountain pens.

  5. I, too, know nothing about pens...but this one looks neat! I've always wondered how they ship items so cheaply from China. Leila orders some things from there from time to time, and some of them are $2 with free shipping. Sometimes less, sometimes more...but how can they do that?!

The pen looks like it writes very nicely, and yes, it is very easy to read. Didn't even need to reference the typewritten page you provided!

  6. My one fountain pen is the Lamy Safari so raved about in the Typosphere. And it is a daily joy to use it - I can't write with anything else.

    1. Rob,
I've been wanting a Safari for quite some time. I always seem to spend my pen money on something else. I plan to resolve that after the Christmas and New Year Holidays.
