Adler J4

I really do not work on typewriters with any part of them hanging off of the workbench.

Easy carriage and cover removal.

The carriage ready to be further taken apart and cleaned.

I broke the right platen knob.  I did not look at the last photo when I wrote the typecast.

Well, I am still not keeping my resolution about the typos.  I think it is the typewriter.....

  1. I haven't worked on one of these before. Yes, it's nice when the designers have bothered to make the carriage easily removable -- it makes cleaning and repair much easier.

  2. Although I don't know anything about the Adler J4, I do want to say that I'm impressed at your willingness to take the darn thing apart! I'm glad that the carriage removal was easy. THAT must have brought you a sigh of relief.

  3. Everything I read about removing typewriter carriages made me think twice before I did this one. I read that some are difficult to remove and others difficult to install and realign. If all manufacturers made typewriters with carriages that came off as easily as this one machines would be super easy to maintain.

  5. You might find more results if you look for an Adler or Triumph Gabriele; that was the name they had in Europe. I echo the other comments - you are brave for taking on such a thorough disassembly! Good luck and let us know how it turns out :)

    1. Adwoa,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will search under those models. Disassembly was really easy, so far.

  6. Did you take some photos before disassembling it? The keys somehow remind me of the Adler Junior E with the special typeface I published yesterday. I don't have a photo of it, though.

    1. No before photos. I should have at least take one overall shot. The typeface looks like normal courier. When I reassemble it and install a fresh ribbon I'll post it.
