The best laid plans of ....

Well. Not a typecast nor a fountain pen entry.  This was going to be a post on one of my pens and I decided to write about why I prefer a typewriter over word processing programs on a PC and my PC with all my normal blog files decided that it would provide another reason I prefer using a typewriter: Hard drive died.  So for the next few days or so of my free time I'll be getting out my Knoppix disk and recovering the data from my drive and saying good riddance  to my last XP machine.  I have 2 more where I use Ubuntu and Magiea.  I'm in the process of moving all my files to these 2 machines as well as installing the latest distro releases.  Crap always happens when there is no time and when I am busy with my other machines and such.  So for now no typecasts or perhaps blog posts for a short while.  Neat thing about an old manual typewriter, no unwanted auto-formatting or hard drive failures....

  2. I feel like it's only a matter of time - I've had the same laptop for so long and patched it up so often (two batteries replaced in three years) that I am relieved when it keeps going (longer than the manufacturer intended, I am now led to believe, although it is only three years old! Ridiculous.)

Thank goodness my 60-90 year old typewriters didn't get that memo... :)

P.S. Love the header with "Made in Switzerland"! I should have thought of that :-)
